Having spoken to Lisa Barretta (BJ's Mum) many times on the show we are happy to have BJ join us.
BJ
Barretta
is an award winning media professional He was born in Philadelphia,
February 8th, 1980 and now resides in Washington, D.C. He has many
varied accomplishments as a media professional: BJ received his master's
degree in television and film production from
American University in Washington, D.C.; edited nationally for CBS News;
managed
an award-winning media team in the federal government; and managed a
public
access station in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Currently, he is at Discovery
Communications. There,
BJ just finished
up a project producing content for TestTube,
Discovery’s first digital network. He
also produced digital content for Shark Week.
His next adventure will be as an associated producer for an Animal Planet
Whale Wars digital experience. He is also teaches a film history class at Northern Virginia Community College.
In
2004 he produced, the Fate Date pilot, the blind dating reality show that was
picked up by The University Network before the network folded. Undeterred,
he found a steady paycheck creating training videos for the Federal Government
where he won multiple awards for his production. He still took the time to
produce commercial work, including political spots for a New Jersey
gubernatorial candidate and several music videos. BJ has shot, directed, and edited
videos for breakout rap artist Yung Cyph, who gained recognition for his successful
performances on BET’s 106 & Park. His video for the song “Hold That (Watch
Me Do My Dance)” featured Warner Bros. artist V.I.C., who had the 2008 top ten rap
hit “Get Silly” and club favorite "Wobble". He has also worked on independent short fiction films in roles
ranging from editor to assistant director.
BJ
enrolled in American University’s highly regarded School of Communication in
2010 for his Masters in Film and Television Producing. Learning from Oscar- and
Emmy winning instructors, BJ excelled in his coursework. When it came time to
choose a topic for his thesis film he was drawn to a topic he was very
interested in: the paranormal. Besides being curious as to why the paranormal
was dominating pop culture, BJ had a unique upbringing. His mother, Lisa Barretta, is a famous astrologer.
What is even more unique is that BJ attended Catholic school from first grade
all the way up to his undergraduate institution. SURVIVING DEATH: A PARANORMAL
DEBATE is more than just a thesis film. It is BJ’s own personal exploration of
a topic that he has been intimately confronted with on a daily basis since he
was a young child.
